Why I Am Taking Geography 4031

     Hello! My name is Brianna Gauthier. I am currently in my senior year at Louisiana State University. For the first two and a half years of my college career, I was studying elementary education. I have always had a passion for education and still do. However, I began to realize that I was not quite sure that I wanted to be confined by that degree. During my sophomore year, I took GEOG 2050 with Jill Trepanier and became extremely interested in geography. Before that class, I honestly thought geography was just memorizing maps. I can thank my high school geography teacher for that. After GEOG 2050, I took a few more geography courses as electives and fell in love. After watching probably one-thousand youtube videos titled "What can you do with a geography degree?" and "Jobs in geography," I decided I wanted to pursue a Geography BA degree. Like many others, the true reason I am in this class is because I need it to graduate. However, I believe that everything happens for a reason and there is a reason, other than just a course credit, that I am in this class. If I am being honest, my knowledge of Latin America and the Caribbean is not very extensive. However, I hope this class changes that. And lastly, I hope this class deepens my knowledge and excitement for the subject of geography.
